Welcome to my JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes Page!

JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes research and I'm excited to play a role in it's purposeful efforts. Last year, team Vitol was able to raise over $30,000 through the team's fundraising work. Several of Vitol's team members' families have been personally affected by the disease and we believe this organization and it's research contributions can make a difference.

More than 85% of contributed funds go directly to research grants. Our team is excited about three research endevours in particular: the 'artificial pancreas' - essentially an implanted feedback loop of a glucose monitor and insulin pump (received FDA approval version I already this year), 'smart insulin,' and encapsulated 'beta cell transplants' (each of which are currently entering phase I of trials).  Our goal is to help fund the three above intentions fully to market by 2020.

I have personally seen two of my aunt's live with type 1 diabetes and would love to see a cure within my lifetime. I do believe it's possible! Type 1 diabetes is unrelated to diet and lifestyle. It occurs when the body’s immune system destroys insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. The disease requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on injected insulin.

Every dollar raised helps JDRF bring life-changing therapies from the lab to the community. Please feel free to ask me about the organization or the team ride coming up! Thank you for your support.
